Understanding Anti Static Bags
You here the phrase Anti Static Bag and you think it's a bag that protects a product from static charge, the trouble is there are different types. Before you order any make sure you have the correct type. ESD stands for electro static discharge and it is this phenomenon, that can damage a static sensitive product. Often people place static sensitive items in a pink anti static bags thinking that the product is protected, unfortunately the product is not protected !. Static Electricity can still pass through the bag. What you need is a bag that can offer Faraday Cage protection, this can be provided by using a Black Conductive Bag or a Static Shield Bag. You do however need to be aware of any batteries or power packs that may touch the conductive layer and drain the battery. In cases such as this you will need a static shield bag, which has several layers of film with an in built metallic layer that provides the faraday cage protection. With this type of bag you can actually see through the material making the contents easier to Identify.
It is worth noting that in terms of cost the anti static is cheapest, followed by static shielding then moisture barrier bags which is another type of bag that not only provides protection from ESD but also prevents moisture penetrating the bag and causing damage to a moisture sensitive device. As technology develops electronic devices are becoming far more sensitive so its important to establish what means of protection are required.

Can an ATI crossfire bridge be damaged by ESD?
I know the GPU is sensitive to static but I'm wondering whether it would be safe to place the bridge in a normal (non-ESD preventative) plastic bag as I am not sure whether the original packaging was in a ESD preventative bag or not. Anyone know for sure? If possible, please post a source, otherwise telling me why would be good
.
Thanks Merc. It seems to be just a strip with copper lines on it for data transfer. Static should only damage memory and other board/card related parts, so I was just confirming incase I fried my bridge.
I don't think there's any source simply because ESD will not damage that bridge.
ESD only damage microchips, because those chips are silicon semiconductor with extremely fine components inside of them. Semiconductor transmit electricity, and your static charges gets transmitted into the chip, damaging its fine components
Actually these days, it takes a lot to damage any components at all. If you've seen those computer retail shop's technician, those guys are holding RAM by touching the chips itself bare hands.
But thats a different story
Your bridge is just a connector, no chips whatsoever
