What's a good temp for an overclocked CPU?
I have an Opteron 180 and have taken it to 2.8Ghz using NTune. It is great at 2.6Ghz using the FSB @ 217Mhz and NMonitor reports 34-38 Celcius. Are there any tips for taking it to a stable 2.8Ghz?
My Rig (aka the last badass hurrah for socket 939):
CPU: Opteron 180
GPU: MSI 8800Gt @ 660Mhz
Cooler: Zalman 9500
Power: 550w
Memory: 3 Gb Corsair PC3200
OS: Windows XP
55 max, more than 60 is very bad,
If you don't have a good aftermarket cooler on that 8800GT it will be making your CPU even hotter
Tips:
Low latency RAM for AMD
running at 1:1 ratio
This will be the best performance.
2.8Ghz with high timings may not be as good performance as 2.6Ghz with lower/tighter timings on your RAM,
Especially in 3D rendering scenarios,
Its better to have 6.4GB/s when you need it than 8.4GB/s a second to late. thats what latency is all about.
Faster RAM increases your max throughput but if the latency is higher as a result, then performance will suffers
