As said above AMD mobile cpu aren't as power efficient as INTEL cpu , moreover most of the applications doesn't utilize all the 4 cores . The i5 has HYPER THREADING which basically makes each core work on two threads simultaneously making it appear as 4 cores, so number of cores should not be the problem here. Going for the clock speed , i5 is much faster than AMD .
In my opinion the best bet would be to wait for the Intel Sandybridge and AMD Llano (fusion) cpus which are considered to be much better , for instance the sandybridge i5 is at par with the current Intel 6-cores i7 cpus and similarly the AMD Llano is similar or better than the Sandybridge i5.
But if you are not going to wait then i will suggest the Intel i5 .
