White Barcode Sticker/Label on Back of UK Passport?

This may be a very stupid question. I got a UK passport in March 2007, and on the back of the leather cover was a white sticker/label that had a barcode on. I can't remember what else it said, but I removed it. I seem to recall it had started to peel off already. Being so paranoid, I can't imagine I would have removed it without knowing if it was okay to do so.

I'm supposed to be flying to the US in less than a fortnight. Will the removal of the sticker be a problem?

Naw, its just a sticker put on during the processing. I have used mine a number of times since mine peeled off without any prolems - it saves the staff doing the passport opening it all the time to find the actual number!
