Why Static Caravan Insurance, and Insurance for Caravans, is a necessary expense

Buying a caravan can be the start of a new life.  Caravans and statics offer a new kind of freedom – a glorious compromise between the great outdoors and the often inclement British weather.  Properly looked after, caravans can give wonderful family holidays for years.  They are, though, fragile beasts, whose benefits quickly fall by the wayside if they aren't well cared for – and that means insurance.  Static caravan insurance, and insurance for caravans that move around, is imperative if a holiday is to bring the peace of mind it's supposed to.

Like any insurance policy, the best way to define the benefits of static caravan insurance, or insurance for caravans that can be moved from place to place, is to list the things (the expensive things, remember) that can go wrong with them.  Static caravan insurance and insurance for caravans that can be towed, isn't just a protection against theft or accident:  it's a shield from the often exorbitant cost of repairing the things when they stop working properly.

Touring caravans, though no less likely to be attacked by damp, at least have the advantage that they go home with their owners – who can then spot and rectify damp problems before they become too major.  Insurance for caravans that move is more use as protection against damage occasioned by moving:  broken struts, faulty tow bars and twisted shells.  Just as one wouldn't go on holiday without motor insurance, neither should they leave home without insurance for caravans – otherwise, what do they do when that unforeseen gust of wind blows the van into a tree, or the pitch they have chosen turns into a bog that wrecks its wheels?

Static caravan insurance offers the same peace of mind that house insurance does, and for the same reasons.  Insurance for caravans that can be towed brings the safety of motor vehicle insurance to the moving home behind the car.  Either way, these aren't negligible policies, take or leave:  they are absolute must-haves, without which a perfect family holiday can quickly turn into an expensive nightmare.

Eradicating Guitar Pickup Noise

There's nothing like the sound of a prized Fender Strat or Telecaster. Electric guitar aficionados, whether or not they play or they listen, know that particular "bark" that these classic electric guitars make. They also know that there is often a hum, which is the result of their single coil pickups, which are susceptible to outside interference and electro-magnetic static. Luckily you can use copper foil shielding to reduce pickup noise.

Single coil pickups have just one coil winding around their magnets, and this is the cause of the hum that you sometimes hear. As the magnet is exposed, it tends to pick up interference from electrical wiring, which enters the signal trail. The result is a 50 "60 hertz hum, which can mess up the bark of the guitar. Using guitar kits or do it yourself methods, this is often simply fixed. Whether you use copper foil shielding or you do it on your own, you are going to want a fair quantity of technical dexterity.

Copper foil shielding kits will run from $15 - $25, and can be easily found on the internet. The kits themselves typically contain self-adhesive copper foil shielding, solder, single conductor insulated wire and detailed instructions. You're going to need a soldering pencil, heat shrinking tubes, tools and a volt/ohm meter. You'll also need a supply of masking tape, pencils and paper. Again, even with the kit it is not a job for the faint of heart, so continue with caution.

To install the copper foil shielding, you are first going to have to dismantle much of your guitar. That's where the pencil and paper come in. Please, make extensive notes of what you took off and where it is going. One mistake can spoil your loved guitar. Also, if your single coil pickups are vintage or rare, it may be best to let a pro apply. Don't take the likelihood of destroying something that is essential.

The point of the copper foil shielding is to ground the pickups and the output wire. Doing that can lose the hum. You are going to have to take away the pickup covers and pickups themselves, and rewrap the wires with protecting tape. The pick-guard must also be removed, and the copper foil must be securely put under it before replacing it. Once completed, the wiring should be tested for shorts. Overall, there is a bit of technical capability required, but if you should happen to feel confident, have the equipment and follow the directions, you should have no issues.

There is not anything like the bark from a vintage Fender, and there isn't anything like a pickup hum to destroy the sound. Fortunately , with copper foil shielding guitar kits and some technical capability, you can offset the background noise and sound as clear as Jimi.

Static shielding bag?

I just read about the effect of Static Shielding Bag. Can anyone tell me, will this shielding bag still posses Faraday Cage effect if the bag have opening? If I open 2 holes [diameter around 10mm] on the static shielding bag, will the chips inside the bag still be protected from static?

It's not a shielding bag, it's a grounding bag. It's purpose is to keep static charge from getting to the parts.

Holes are OK as long as you don't reach inside with your finger and touch the parts.
